Lyft Doubles Referral Hires
Lyft is a rideshare company that allows consumers to request a ride with friendly drivers through its popular software application. Lyft has operations in 300 cities in the United States.
The Business Challenge
Recruiters at companies like Lyft understand that employee referrals are the most useful way of finding new talent. Referrals are generally more productive, produce lower turnover, and are culturally a better fit.
But identifying talent through traditional channels was difficult and the team knew that relying on people to refer people wasn’t always effective. Great candidates were slipping through the cracks and the screening process was slow and time consuming.
Lyft knew there had to be a better way to keep employees engaged to quickly identify and hire top talent.
How Teamable Helped
To find a solution, Jeff Yang, Lyft’s Recruiting Operations Program Manager, considered a few different options such as LinkedIn referrals and Simppler, but these fell short on critical factors like outdated processes, support, user experience, and future development.
After being given a demonstration of Teamable’s employee referral software engine, Lyft became one of the first adopters back in 2015.
Lyft now had the power to instantly tap into their employees’ already public social media networks (like LinkedIn, Google+, and Facebook) in finding and approaching great candidates for job vacancies. There was no more use of downloading employee contacts into CSVs and wasting hours of client group time by manually diving into each of their networks.
The end goal for Lyft was provided – to leverage more employees to reach out and speed up the process of adding high quality referrals. Using the software is simple and fast, taking employees less than two minutes to signup and upload their networks.
“I can easily search for candidates that are qualified for the roles I am hiring for, ping the referrer to receive an intro, and then quickly connect with the candidate,” Jeff said.
And he loves that the whole process is recruiter driven, and uses data mining technology to identify matches.
All of our teams, across every business and engineering function, can log-in and refer candidates; so strategically, we’ve started leveraging people more to reach out and add their networks.–Jeff Yang, Recruiting Operations Program Manager
Employee referrals at Lyft have increased by 100% and Teamable has become a vital tool for their entire recruitment team.
“We’ve doubled our referrals by using Teamable and historically, we’ve relied on our hires coming from referrals,” Jeff explains.
“All of our teams, across every business and engineering function, can log-in and refer candidates, and strategically we’ve started leveraging people more to reach out and add their networks.”
He said Teamable has helped his company build a strong talent pipeline that it can rely on to support future growth.
