Lyft Doubles Referral Hires

Lyft is a rideshare company that allows consumers to request a ride with friendly drivers through its popular software application. Lyft has operations in 300 cities in the United States.

The Business Challenge

Recruiters at Lyft understand that employee referrals are their best source of high-quality talent. Candidates referred by employees are faster to hire, more cost efficient, and convert into hires at higher rates that candidates from any other channel.

As Lyft scaled, traditional sourcing channels began to bottleneck the recruiting team’s ability to drive top-of-funnel candidates.

To address this challenge the hiring ops team began the search for a technology partner that could optimize and accelerate the candidate sourcing process for the recruiting team. As the company scaled, the recruiting team also sought to engage a broader group of employees in the referral process and build Lyft’s employer brand.

How Teamable Helped

To find a solution, Jeff Yang, Lyft’s Recruiting Operations Program Manager, considered a few different options such as LinkedIn referrals and Simppler, but these fell short on critical factors like outdated processes, support, user experience, and future development.

After being given a demonstration of Teamable’s employee referral software engine, Lyft became one of the first adopters back in 2015.

Lyft now has the power to instantly tap into their employees’ public social media networks (like LinkedIn, Google+, and Facebook) to identify and engage great candidates. Teamable has allowed Lyft to abandon outdated, spreadsheet-based sourcing methods and replace them with seamless workflows. Using Teamable, it is easy for Lyft recruiters to search for and identify relevant candidates in their employees’ networks and for employees to make warm introductions.

“I can easily search for candidates that are qualified for the roles I am hiring for, ping the referrer to receive an intro, and then quickly connect with the candidate,” Jeff said.

Jeff and the team love that the whole process is recruiter-driven, and uses data mining technology to identify matches.
